Learning With The Hollywood Formula

At iversity, we observed a high number of drop-outs in online courses. At the same time, people spent on average 14 hours per week on Netflix. As product lead, I wanted to make use of people‘s desire for stories to increase the immersion in online courses. Therefore, I started the development of an online course that approached learning like a Hollywood movie. With a small team and a challenging budget, we produced a project-based, highly activity-focussed online course on Agile Management with 90 mins of video that was based on Campbell‘s Hero‘s Journey and narrated like a fictional story. Serving as a pilot to test the story-based approach, we could see significant improvement in learner retention.
